Reflection: A Third of the Course DONE!!!!

As we continue on in week 5, I figured this would be a good a time as any to reflect on the week, semester, and my thoughts going forward. So far, I think this class has become my favorite one I'm taking this semester (don't tell my courses). I am really enjoying the creativity, the ability to explore, and the ability to pick and choose what I want to do each week whether it be looking into Flickr, Instagram, participating in discussions, or a scavenger hunt. Not only that, but I think this class has allowed me to really think deeply bot only on the role that social media can have in a classroom setting, but on our lives as well. I've learned so many new and cool tools that I could see working really well with education, and I've discovered new tools that I'll be using in life.  This week, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with my course load. My boyfriend is visiting, so I've been really trying to stay on top of my work as a whole, but it seems like it's a...

I think the apple's rotten right to the core... Intellectual Property and Social Media

After learning a little bit more about intellectual property, it made me think more about intellectual property within social media, and specifically TikTok. Something that I see happen pretty often on TikTok (and saw on Twitter when I used to use it), is one creator posting a TikTok telling a story or posting an opinion. Ten scrolls later, I see the exact same story/opinion again, done word for word, expect its from a totally different creator. The sad thing, is that I've seen this been done countless times and I'm sure that if I were to go scroll on my feed for a while, I'd see it happen again. I'm wondering how intellectual property works for things like this, and if any laws have been made for specific examples like this.  This also reminded me of another situation. TikTok creators are known to take short, catchy parts of a song and create a dance to it. This helps the songs go viral, and often leads to many other users recreating it and posting it. Maybe a year ag...

Goodreads

I love using Goodreads! It's my favorite app to go to when I'm looking for something to read, or just want to know what a book is about. It also allows me to keep track of all the books I've read, and all the books my friends have read to. This makes it easy to open conversation with them and ask how they enjoyed their last read, or ask if they'd recommend. Another feature I love using is the TBR. As someone who is an avid reader, my list of books I want to read is EXTREMELY long and makes it easy to forget what I may have wanted to read. Using Goodreads, it's easy to keep track of it. I also enjoy the little challenges that Goodreads has and actually reminds me a lot of the challenges in this class. I love seeing the little badges I earn, it feels like earning a sticker back in elementary school!  Recently, I just started a book club with two of my friends. We read a few chapters and then meet every week to discuss them. We're currently reading The Wedding Peop...

Pinterest & Flickr

I wanted to share my experience with both Pinterest and Flickr today! In the past, I've used Pinterest pretty often. Mainly, I use it to find inspiration and ideas for things like nail designs, outfits, or posters to decorate my room with. I even have boards for what my dream house would look like! Because of this, I find Pinterest pretty easy to use. One of my favorite features is after creating a board, Pinterest shows you some recommendations of other posts that fit the theme and vibe of your board. Through this, I have found so many more posts without having to dig through all the ones that pop up in your search feed. I also adore the explore/for you page that has contains recommendations based on all your boards. Earlier today, I created a board on what my dream home office would look like (if I was rich). It was super easy to find inspiration and narrow down what I like. I think I'd like a lot of natural light, a cozy comfy vibe, and lots of books in my future office! Ch...

Wikipedia

Growing up and in the classroom, the only thing I ever heard about Wikipedia was that it was unreliable source. Even now, because of this it has caused a sort of aversion for me, where I find myself almost never clicking on the Wikipedia page for it. Of course, I understand why, as virtually anyone can edit a page, but honestly, I find it as a great tool. Wikipedia is a great space for finding the need to know information on virtually any topic ever, and, if you wanted more in depth information, they've got it too! When searching something up, I feel like I have to often open many articles and sites to find all the information I need, whereas Wikipedia has a summary, its history, a timeline, etc. all in one spot. I think Wikipedia can be a great tool to use.  This week, it was nice to learn about all of Wikipedia's sister tools! I had never heard or used them before so it was nice to explore them a little bit. One that I found really unique and fun was Wikiquote . Wikiquote is ...

My Weekend Baking

After a pretty busy weekend, I thought I'd take a more chill approach this time round, and what better than to bake! I've had the urge to bake recently, and yesterday I wanted to try out making some homemade Hawaiian rolls! Where did I find my recipe? TikTok.  Recently, I have found it so much easier to find recipes through TikTok. With its short video format, it makes it easy to go through recipe after recipe until I find one that works for me. It makes it so easy to watch the TikTok's when each step is concisely broken down and showed. The recipe is often times in the caption, and the comments are a great tool to browse through for tips and tricks from other people who have attempted the recipe.  I find this works better (and quicker) for me than googling a recipe. With recipes found online, they often take you through a whole life stories worth of information. I could be scrolling for five minutes STRAIGHT before I even reach my ingredients list. Then, the website will m...

The Instagram Scavenger Hunt Challenge

WOWIE! I had so much fun with both the Instagram Scavenger Hunt Challenge and the Long Hot Weekend Challenge. Anyone that knows me, knows I love things like escape rooms and scavenger hunts so this was right up my alley! I was SO lucky to be visiting Chicago this weekend with my boyfriend when these challenges were announced on the blog. My boyfriend is moving to Chicago at the end of June for work. To get to know the people at the office better, they invited him to spend a week in Chicago and work with them, so I tagged along for some fun! I was so excited to be able to explore the city while having my own little side quest. I even got my boyfriend involved and he'd help point out everything he saw too! I have to admit, I did take some creative liberties with some of the tasks, but hey, it makes it more fun! I thought for this blog post, it'd be fun to breakdown all my pictures and any fun little tidbits that come with them! You can check out my pictures for the challenge on m...
