The Instagram Scavenger Hunt Challenge

WOWIE! I had so much fun with both the Instagram Scavenger Hunt Challenge and the Long Hot Weekend Challenge. Anyone that knows me, knows I love things like escape rooms and scavenger hunts so this was right up my alley!

I was SO lucky to be visiting Chicago this weekend with my boyfriend when these challenges were announced on the blog. My boyfriend is moving to Chicago at the end of June for work. To get to know the people at the office better, they invited him to spend a week in Chicago and work with them, so I tagged along for some fun! I was so excited to be able to explore the city while having my own little side quest. I even got my boyfriend involved and he'd help point out everything he saw too! I have to admit, I did take some creative liberties with some of the tasks, but hey, it makes it more fun! I thought for this blog post, it'd be fun to breakdown all my pictures and any fun little tidbits that come with them! You can check out my pictures for the challenge on my Instagram, @lydiaeme6414

Instagram Scavenger Hunt Challenge:

1. When I read the business card one, I figured I'd be able to find some at a cool hip coffee shop. Luckily for me, I found A BUNCH of business cards. Unlucky for me, NONE of them had any social media contact info on them. While walking down the street just about a block from that coffee shop, we stumbled upon the Rainbow Unicorn and I immediately snuck in to grab their business card and snuck right out. I was really proud of this find!

2. You would think that finding a QR code that links to social media would be easy. Let me tell you, IT'S NOT. The amount of QR codes around the city is astounding. Left, right, in front of you, behind you, they're everywhere! Except, they all lead to their websites or their apps or their menus, etc. I decided to stop in for a matcha and was just enjoying my cute little drink when I looked down at the cup and BAM! There it was, the QR code of my dreams! This was probably my post proud find of the weekend.

3. I won't lie, I went on Google News and clicked on entertainment until I found an article that included an Instagram shoutout!

4. Ralph's Coffee! It was such a cute little coffee shop and I'm obsessed with how cute the polo bear was, so this was a pleasant surprise to see their social media handle on their menu.

5. This one was also tough! We weren't at many places this weekend with a TV, so when we went into Gordon Ramseys burger restaurant, I was so excited! I did stare at the TV for a good 5 minutes though before I realized their was a hashtag in the bottom right corner.

6. The L is FULL of ads posted inside. This was actually my first find of the week for a music school!

7. Surprisingly, the Lincoln Park Zoo had no social media handles or shoutouts posted ANYWHERE and I looked at every single sign, poster, etc. that the zoo had to offer. In fact, I actually saw a lot of signs warning against posting and reposting animal cruelty which was nice. I did think the zoo could benefit from some social media though to raise more attention to their cause.

8. For my surprising social media pick, I didn't expect a shoe repair shop to have a YouTube or Facebook!

UPDATE: I’m at the airport currently and was able to find a book with the authors social media contact info!! Shoutout Ali Hazelwood! I might just have to check her books out!!

The Long Hot Weekend Challenge:

1. Sports: While we didn't get to go to a Cubs game this weekend, we are planning to eventually! Wrigley Field is SO iconic and my boyfriend grew up playing baseball and still loves the game so I'm excited to watch the cubs! I used to think baseball was SO boring, but now that I understand it more, I actually have a lot fun. Especially when I have a hotdog.

2. Nature: We decided to take some bikes out and bike all along navy pier and Lake Michigan to Lincoln Park. I'm not the best biker, so I decided to wait until we stopped to take a picture of the beautiful lake and city in the back.

3. Art: The Ralph Lauren store was FILLED with beautiful paintings.

4. Concert: Yes, I know, its a poster for Lollapalooza, which I would argue IS a concert.... so I'm counting this one.

5. Movies: We didn't have time to stop in for a movie, but we did stop in a shop that sold DVDs!

6. Fine Dining: You're probably wondering: what's up with all the Ralph Lauren? Well, my boyfriend worked at a Polo back in high school and his discount was GREAT. Because of that, 70% of his closet is probably Polo and it's become a running joke between us, so we like to stop in at Polos and Ralph Laurens when we see them! The coffee shop, restaurant, and store were all right next door and the food was AMAZING.

7. Barbecue: I wasn't sure how I was going to pull this one off because we didn't have any plans of eating barbecue. But then, we turn the corner and BAM a giant grill. It felt kismet.

8. Relaxing: This is a picture of our hotel room! The CitizenM was super cool and a comfy stay.

9. Hanging out with friends: This one might be cheating, but leaving the zoo, we saw a wedding. I'm sure some of them are friends and hanging out! LOL! (I LOVE LOVE!!!!)

10. Big night out: This was the perfect end to our Saturday! My boyfriend planned a surprise to take me to watch the fireworks with a beautiful view of the city. It just so happened that the Weeknd was in town and had a concert SUPER close to where he was planning to take us. The bus ended up getting cancelled so we had to scram last minute to find a scooter to take us there. Because of the concert, they blocked the path and wouldn't let scooters through so we had to speed walk our way over before the fireworks started. Thanks a lot, the Weeknd.

I had a super fun time completing these two challenges, and if you participated too, I hope you had just as fun of a time!
