Taylor's Version
If you haven't heard yet, Taylor Swift officially owns all of her music! Wooohooo! Personally, I would say I'm a Swiftie. Now, I don't own merch or keep updated with 24/7 of her life, or know about all the easter eggs she has, but I still am a fan of her music and I'll watch the occasional Tik Tok that pops up about her on my feed.
Earlier this week, I decided that for our community assignment (the experience one), I was going to join two Taylor Swift communities. I had never interacted with any of them before, and I knew it was a community that would always be active and have lots of posts for me to look at and participate in. I chose to join the Taylor Swift subreddit, as well as two Taylor Swift Facebook groups as my two social media based communities. Crazily enough, Taylor Swift announced today that she officially owns her music now, after a looooooong battle to get them. With this announcement, both communities have gone off the wall CRAZY excited for her! The communities were still active before this, but with this news, I feel like they've both blown up and I have a lot more posts to interact with now. I'm excited to keep lurking and interacting and to see what everyone has to say. What a crazy time for me to join!

What perfect timing to join the Swiftie community. Talk about jumping in during a major moment! It’s awesome that you got to experience how an online community responds in real time to big news. I’ve noticed that too with fandom-based groups, when something big happens, the energy and activity level just skyrocket.
ReplyDeleteEven though I’m not deep in the Swiftie world, I totally get the appeal. I actually only became somewhat of a fan myself when I discovered she was trying to buy the rights to her music a few years back. I think it’s interesting how online communities like the subreddit or Facebook groups can bring together people at all levels of fandom, from casual listeners to die-hard fans decoding every lyric.
Can’t wait to hear how your community assignment experience unfolds. It sounds like you picked a fun (and very active!) group to follow!
Let me preface this by saying that most of my Swiftie knowledge comes second-hand or through what I hear in other parts of the internet. I'm not a Swiftie. I don't know anyone who is. Yet from what I've heard that fanbase can be...intense. To the point where they don't tolerate anyone being critical of Swift, both from those within the community and outsiders. Is this true or has what I've heard been blown totally out of proportion?
ReplyDeleteHi Adam!
DeleteI'm no Swiftie expert either, but I've definitely heard that that can be the case. I also can see that happening with her younger fans too, who might see critic as hate!
