Being a Blogger

Being a blogger is a lot more fun than I expected! At first, when I was going over the syllabus for this class and going over the requirements for our blogs, I was OVERWHELMED. I thought I couldn't possibly have enough to say to be able to post three blog posts in a week. However, once I start typing, it kind of feels like the words just keep flowing out of me. I am actually enjoying a blogger and sometimes I even feel like I'm Gossip Girl.

One thing I would like to eventually learn to do with my blog is to customize it more. I have been scrolling through others blog sites and have seen some customizations. Changes in colors, backgrounds, pictures, etc. I think all of these additions make the blogs seem so much more personable than the generic layout that I currently have. I think a goal of mine eventually is to take some time and customize my blog to make it feel more like me. I think having a blog (even one for class) can be so personal, because you can learn so much about someone based on the words they use and the style they write in and even the topics they choose to write about. Making this blog more "me" would add that extra step of "me-ness" to this.

This blogging assignment actually brings up a great point about adapting teaching techniques to fit digital native. In an article titled Digital Natives, Digital Immigrant by Mark Prensky, he talks about the need to adapt teaching styles that fit digital natives. I think this course does a fantastic job at that. While in a typical class you would have textbooks and notes and lectures and  (sometimes) boring lessons, this class does a great job at incorporating teachings that mix in a little bit of both the traditional and the new. I think creating and writing a blog is so up to par with being a digital native and it allows for us to be more creative in our own learning and exploration of this class.
